What is Welding?
Welding is the process of heat to join metal into one piece by fusing them together.
Forms of Welding
TIG Welding: Is the method used for recoring charge air coolers (CACs). TIG is the best form of welding to use for recoring CACs because it provides control, the clean bead and strength needed for the finished product. The equipment needed for TIG welding depends on thickness of the material that the welder is using. For thicker materials, the welder will need a high powered TIG welder. In addition to the welder, the technician will need wire brush, circular saw, die cutter and finish grinder. Other helpful tools include hammers, C-lamps and other hand tools.
MIG Welding: Is the method used for welding aluminum. Aluminum welding presents numerous challenges even to an experienced professional. In the aluminum welding process, high thermal conductivity can cause burnthrough if the temperature is too high. The wire used in the aluminum welding process is also problematic because of it is softer than steel, causing it to tangle. Equipment needed for aluminum includes a stainless steel bristle wire brush, welding wire and shielding gas.
